About the course
Gardiners Run is the golf course of Chirnside Park Country Club, on Victoria Road in Lilydale at the gateway to the Yarra Valley. The club has operated since 1974 and originally had its course at the Kingswood Drive site in Chirnside Park. As housing closed in around it, the club sold the golf land to developers and built a new course, which opened on Victoria Road in May 2014. The name recalls John Gardiner, who took out the district's first grazing licence in 1838.
The par 72 course measures 6210 metres from the blue tees, 5600 metres from the white and 5010 metres from the gold. It was designed with generous landing areas and a weatherproof base.
- 3rd: a short par 3 played over water and sand to a gently contoured green.
- 5th: a downhill par 4 of under 275 metres that tempts long hitters, with sand and water near the green and a fairway bunker short of it.
- 18th: a par 4 over a ridge to a green partly surrounded by water and sand.
The course is open to the public. Players register as public members to book online, and golfers with a Golf Australia handicap can enter competitions for an extra fee. From 1 July 2026, off-peak fees are $65 for 18 holes ($57.50 prepaid online) and $42.50 for nine; peak fees on weekends, public holidays and over Christmas are $76 and $47.50. Visitor carts cost $55, and children under 10 may not ride in them. Neat golf or leisure wear is required, with no athletic wear, beachwear, thongs or metal spikes.
Practice facilities include a 250-metre driving range, a chipping area and a putting green, and PGA professional James Briggs runs lessons and clinics. The clubhouse has a licensed bar and kitchen and a shaded deck overlooking the pond and 18th hole, and the golf shop runs club fittings.
