About the course
Busselton Golf Club, on Chapman Hill Road near Geographe Bay, traces its origins to a meeting at the Esplanade Hotel on 24 April 1907, and its first nine-hole course opened beside the Vasse River just 31 days later. The club moved several times, to Fairlawn in 1928, McGregors Paddock in 1940 and the Old Course at Sussex Green from 1948. Urban development then led it in 1979 to its current Ambergate course, which came with a clubhouse and practice range.
The par 72 course was designed by Murray Dawson and winds through woodland on broad fairways with gentle slopes and well-placed bunkers. A new irrigation system was installed in 2001, and the course is fully reticulated with recycled town water. Superintendent Lance Knox was named 2022 Superintendent of the Year. The closing 18th is a par 4 that usually plays into the wind, and most members cannot reach it in two.
Visitors are welcome. Green fees are $75 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, and $30 and $20 for juniors. Social rounds can be booked online or by phone up to seven days ahead, with full prepayment required, and visitors wanting to play in competitions can book by phone up to four days ahead with their Golf Link number. Groups of more than 12 should email the club. The course opens from 6.30am to 6pm in summer and 7.30am to 5pm in winter. Motorised carts cost $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine for non-members, and clubs with a buggy hire for $20. The whole site is licensed and BYO drinks are not allowed.
Practice facilities include a 220-metre driving range with distance signs, open seven days, and a putting and chipping green south of the clubhouse. The golf shop opens seven days and offers free club fitting sessions, and PGA professionals give lessons from $70 for 30 minutes. The clubhouse café and bar has indoor and outdoor seating looking over the course.
