About the course
Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club is a member-owned club a short walk from the Dunsborough town centre, close to the beaches of Geographe Bay at the northern end of the Margaret River wine region. The course opened in 1993. Members began the process of buying the course and clubhouse in 2014 and took ownership in September 2016.
The 18-hole layout measures 6,200 metres and was originally designed by Australian PGA player Alan Murray, whose wins included the French Open and the Australian PGA. It has since been reviewed by local PGA veteran Lyndsay Stephen and Phil Scott of Scott Golf Designs. The course is fully reticulated, with Hybrid Wintergreen fairways, undulating 1019 Providence bent greens, wide fairways, and lakes and water features in play.
The course is open to the public seven days a week, with some times blocked out for club competitions, which are generally held twice a week as mixed events. Visitors register as public members and then book tee times online. Green fees are $79 for 18 holes and $59 for nine walking, with twilight nine holes after 4pm at $39. A cart for two adds $55 for 18 holes or $44 for nine, and drivers must be over 18 with a current licence. The dress standard is a collared or polo shirt, tailored shorts and enclosed golf shoes or runners, and alcohol is not allowed on the course.
The pro shop opens at 6am, closing at 6pm in winter, 7pm in spring and autumn and 8pm in summer, and handles payments, cart and club hire, lessons and club repairs. Green fees include use of the practice areas: a driving range where floating balls are hit into the lake (buckets $12 and $18), a pitching green with a bunker, and a long putting green. The Lakeside Café, Bar and Bistro looks over the 18th green and range and is open to the public for lunch and dinner.
