About the course

Pickering Brook Sports Club is a multi-sport club in the Perth hills, based at George Spriggs Reserve on Weston Road in Pickering Brook, about 30 minutes' drive from the city and from most of Perth's central and southern suburbs. As well as golf, the club runs football, lawn bowls, darts, drone racing and remote-control car sections, and its current clubhouse opened around 50 years ago.

The golf course dates from 1960. It is an 18-hole, par 72 layout cut through natural bushland, with native plants framing the fairways and sand greens rather than grass. The club describes play as seasonal: the course is at its best once the winter rains have arrived.

Casual golfers pay $5, which covers as much golf as they want to play that day. The fee goes in the honour box at the clubhouse or at the shelter beside the 10th. Away from competition days the course is usually quiet, so visitors can play at their own pace, but should wave faster groups through. Club competitions are held on Thursdays for women (arrive by 9.30am) and Saturdays for men (arrive by 10.30am). A course map can be downloaded from the club's golf page, and the golf section can be reached on 9293 8333.

The clubhouse bar keeps short hours: late afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 4.30pm on Fridays, and closed on Tuesdays and Sundays. Friday night is family meal night, and bookings are essential.
