About the course
Gosnells Golf Club was formed in August 1945 at a meeting of local golfers in the Gosnells Hall, and its first 18-hole course opened at Maddington in May 1946. The club later moved to its present site on Sandringham Promenade in Canning Vale after quarry engineer Athol Doig identified the land and, with club champion Lindsay George, judged it suitable for golf. Murray Dawson designed the course with help from the WAGA course advisory, and the clubhouse was built in 1962, with renovations in 1993 and 2014.
The course runs through native bushland, moving between tree-lined corridors, open landing areas and raised greens. Men play par 70 from the blue tees (slope 121) and women par 72 from the red tees (slope 124), with five sets of tees in all.
- 1st: a 279-metre par 4 from the blue tees, with a green guarded by bunkers and rough that tempts long hitters.
- 9th: a 153-metre par 3 over water to a raised, two-tiered green below the clubhouse.
- 18th: a 471-metre par 5 with a lake guarding the right side of a two-tiered green.
Gosnells is a members' club. Visitors can play on Mondays, subject to the timesheet, after creating a visitor account; tee times open seven days ahead. The visitor rate is $89 for 18 holes and $45 for nine, and carts cost $50 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, reserved through the pro shop. The pro shop is cashless and the club applies a strict dress code.
Practice facilities include a 160 to 170 metre irons-only range next to the clubhouse, a putting green, a chipping green and a practice bunker, open from 6.30am daily with reduced hours on Thursdays and Fridays for maintenance. The golf academy coaches juniors and adults. The clubhouse cafe opens from 6.30am on weekdays, lunch is served daily, and Wednesday is steak night.
