About the course
Hartfield Country Club in Forrestfield was formed in 1970, when the members of the Kalamunda and Hillrose golf clubs joined together. Kalamunda had played on a sand green course off Mundaring Weir Road, but a lack of water stopped it moving to grass greens. The Shire of Kalamunda leased the new club 90 hectares of the Hartfield reserve, the course opened in 1972 and the clubhouse followed in 1975. Foundation members cleared the dense bush and built the course with volunteer labour. Golf WA has used the course for several events.
The 18-hole championship course winds through gently undulating bushland in the Perth foothills. Many greens are tiered or strongly sloped, and the prevailing westerly is a factor on the short holes. - 4th: the first par 3, where the westerly moves the ball from left to right and three large bunkers guard the green. - 15th: a par 3 played over a large water hazard to a big green that slopes from back to front. - 16th: a dogleg left par 4 with water through the fairway and short left of the green.
Hartfield is a members' club, but the public can play all day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; at other times the course is for members. Bookings are essential, online after registering as a public member or by phoning the pro shop. Carts can be hired with a booking, but there are no hire clubs. Visitors need neat golf attire with a collared shirt, and no denim. The club also holds open competitions, such as the Hartfield Open, that visitors can enter.
The driving range and short game areas are for members, though visitors booked for a round may use them that day. The pro shop next to the clubhouse, overlooking the 9th and 18th greens, has PGA professionals for lessons, launch monitor club fitting and repairs.
