About the course
Whaleback Golf Course is a City of Canning public course in Parkwood, with access from Roe Highway. The 18 holes spread across about 50 hectares of parkland and mix flat ground, steep tree-covered hills and lakes that are home to local wildlife.
The course is a par 71 of 5,595 metres from the blue tees, with white and red tees for shorter games. The front nine is a par 35 and the back nine a par 36. Holes to note:
- 11th: a 463-metre par 5.
- 13th: the shortest hole, a 144-metre par 3.
- 16th: the longest hole, a 465-metre par 5.
- 17th: a 380-metre par 4 and the hardest hole on the card (index 1).
Whaleback is open seven days a week. For 2026/27, weekday green fees are $39 for 18 holes and $26 for nine, and weekend and public holiday fees are $46 and $31. Concession rates of $32 and $21 apply on weekdays, and twilight golf is $19 from 4pm. Tee times can be booked online up to 10 days ahead with payment at the time of booking and a 48-hour cancellation policy, or by phoning the pro shop two days before and paying on arrival. Walk-ins are taken, but booked players have priority, and groups may be paired in busy periods. Motorised carts cost $49 for 18 holes and $39 for nine, and hirers must be 18 or over with a driver's licence. Several social clubs play here each week, including seniors', ladies' and Saturday groups.
The Pod Driving Range has 39 covered bays over two levels with ball-tracking screens, plus bookable social suites, and no booking is needed for standard bays. A practice area with separate putting and chipping greens and a bunker is open to all. The pro shop stocks the major brands and offers club fitting, and coaches run private lessons and clinics. Tales Bar and Eats opens daily from 6am to 8pm, with the kitchen serving from 11am to 7.30pm.
