About the course
Wanneroo Golf Club, on Flynn Drive at Neerabup in Perth's northern suburbs, about 30 minutes' drive from the city, was started by a group of amateur golfers who first met in 1970 with the aim of building their own private club. Volunteers and sponsors built the course by hand, and it opened on 24 March 1973. The club owns its course and clubhouse outright.
It is a tree-lined parkland course with mostly flat fairways and some gentle elevation change, and newcomers often single out its long par 4s, doglegs and greens. Men's par is 72 over 6,235 metres and women's par is 73 over 5,365 metres. The course record of 64 is shared by Kim Felton and Pat Giles, and Minjee Lee holds the women's record of 71. A new irrigation system now covers the whole course, the water feature on the 15th has been rebuilt, and kangaroos are often seen.
Wanneroo is a private members' club with set times for public play: all day Monday and Tuesday, and Thursday and Friday afternoons. Green fees are $80 for 18 holes and $45 for nine, and visitor carts cost $60 and $35. Tee times can be booked through the club's online public portal or by phoning the pro shop, and green fees must be paid before play. The club's guest rules also cover members of reciprocal clubs and overseas visitors, who need a membership card or letter of introduction, and guests need an official handicap to enter competitions. Social golf groups and corporate days with catering can be arranged.
Head professional Shaun Volante runs the pro shop, which opens seven days and offers lessons, custom fitting and repairs. The clubhouse has a bar, an alfresco area overlooking the course and a kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
