About the course

The Vines Resort is in the Swan Valley wine region, about 30 minutes from the Perth CBD, with its golf set in native bushland. Graham Marsh and Ross Watson designed the courses, which hosted the Heineken Classic from 1993 to 2001, the LPGA Lexus Cup in 2007 and the Johnnie Walker Classic in 2006 and 2009, with fields that included Norman, Player, Els, Langer and Sorenstam.

Golf is played on the 18-hole Championship course and the nine-hole Lakes course. The Championship course is par 72 and 5,783 metres from the white tees, with a slope rating of 128. The courses have large bentgrass greens, deep bunkers and grassy hollows; most fairways are reasonably generous, but bunkers and water punish a stray shot. The championship tees suit stronger players and the white tees give social golfers more room. The resort notes some course changes while its reticulation is upgraded.

Both courses are open to the public 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day). Green fees on the Championship course are $85 for 18 holes and $60 for nine walking on weekdays, with 18 holes $104 on Sundays and more with a cart, and twilight golf costs $39. Online bookings carry no booking fee, while phone or email bookings cost $10 per person. The course is no BYO and glass is not allowed, but eskies with ice are supplied and drinks are sold at the Greenside Café, open daily from first light.

The grass-tee driving range opens from 6.30am to 5.30pm (from 9am on Thursdays), with buckets from $12, and there is a short-game area with a multi-tiered green and bunkers. Mark Tibbles of the MTI Golf Academy runs private and group lessons and junior programs. The resort also has an 18-hole mini golf course, accommodation, restaurants, tennis and a pool.
