About the course
Adelong Golf Club is a nine-hole course outside Adelong, a former gold-mining town of about 900 people roughly 20 km west of Tumut. The course is reached by the unsealed Adelong Racecourse Road, which runs off the sealed Reka Road about 5 km east of town, on the Snowy Mountains Highway side towards Tumut.
The nine holes have small black sand greens and are laid out over gently rolling ground with scattered trees and no bunkers. Most holes play straight. Played twice for 18 holes, the course measures 5,580 metres from the white tees and 4,842 metres from the red tees, with a par of 35 for each nine and 70 for the round. The par 5s are long but there is little trouble for straight hitters. The sand greens run quickly and can be hard to read for players used to grass.
- 5th: a 464-metre par 5, the longest hole.
- The dam hole: a par 3 played uphill over a new dam to a sand green, where the climb is easy to misjudge from the tee.
The course is open all year and social golf can be played seven days a week. Members play on Tuesdays and weekends; competition details and green fees are not published online, so contact the club by email. Facilities are basic, with a shaded area under old elm trees where players gather after a round.
