About the course

Cootamundra Golf & Sports Club traces its origins to 1895 and describes itself as the oldest golf club in country New South Wales. It runs the only golf course in Cootamundra, a Riverina town about two hours' drive north-west of Canberra, and today operates as a venue of the Wyong Leagues Group, with facilities for bowls and croquet as well as golf.

The 18-hole course plays to a par of 71 and measures 5608 metres from the white tees and 4988 metres from the red. The two feature holes are downhill par 3s that punish a wayward tee shot:

  • 5th: a 140-metre par 3 played downhill.
  • 16th: a 195-metre par 3, also downhill.

Visitors book through the pro shop, and members book tee times online. Green fees are not published online. All club competitions are open to visitors: men's events run on Saturday, women's on Wednesday and Saturday, and further competitions are held from Sunday to Thursday, with social golf available seven days a week.

The pro shop stocks equipment and clothing and hires out serviced golf carts and full sets of clubs, and the resident professional offers private and group coaching for all ages and abilities. The clubhouse has a bar, TAB and gaming, and the Merlion restaurant serves Western and Malaysian dishes as well as stonegrill meals. The club is closed on Mondays and opens from 10 am the rest of the week.
