About the course
Asquith Golf Club is in Mount Colah on Sydney's Upper North Shore, set against native bushland. It opened as a nine-hole course on 18 June 1938, on land that had been an orchard and a dog racing track, with a small clubhouse on Royston Parade. The original log cabin clubhouse was extended several times before the present clubhouse opened on Lord Street in 1970. The course later grew to 18 holes, and several holes were rebuilt by members in the 1980s when the Sydney to Newcastle Freeway was built alongside.
The men's layout is par 70 and 5,494 metres from the blue tees, with a slope rating of 134; women play a 5,055-metre par 71. Each nine has three par 3s and two par 5s. The course is not long, and some par 5s are reachable in two, but the greens and their surrounds ask for careful approach play.
- 1st (Ironmonger's Knob): a 424-metre par 5 with a narrow gap between fairway bunkers and a green that slopes away from the player.
- 18th (Home James): a 393-metre par 4, index 1 for men, with out of bounds right and a hazard left; women play it as a par 5.
Visitors can book social golf online or through the pro shop, and all players must report to the pro shop before teeing off. Social times fit around competitions: on most weekdays there are early-morning slots and times from late morning, while on weekends social play starts after 3.15pm on Saturday and after 1pm on Sunday. Green fees are $63 for 18 holes and $42 for nine, with twilight golf at $42 for as many holes as can be played. Cart hire is $55 for 18 holes and $33 for nine, and hire clubs and pull or electric buggies are available.
The pro shop offers club fitting, private lessons, junior holiday clinics and women's clinics. Maila's Bistro serves pub dishes and Nepalese food at lunch from Tuesday to Sunday and dinner from Thursday to Saturday.
