About the course
Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club is a private club in Sydney's northern suburbs, bordering Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Planning began in 1989 and the club opened in 1994, the first new course built in Sydney in more than 20 years. Graham Marsh designed the 18-hole championship course, which runs through native bushland that the club manages with an emphasis on ecologically sustainable maintenance.
The course is a par 72 of about 6,500 metres from the black tees, with blue, white and gold tees for shorter rounds. Creeks, lakes, mounding and bushland feature on many holes.
- 1st: a 492-metre par 5 that can be reached in two, with a creek in front of a large green.
- 6th: the longest par 3 at 187 metres, to a deep green with heavy bunkering.
- 15th: a 176-metre par 3 with one long bunker that runs about 100 metres down the right and curls around the green.
- 18th: a 372-metre par 4 that doglegs left, with an uphill approach to a shallow green.
The course is for members and their guests, and the club does not publish visitor green fees or public tee times. The dress code requires collared shirts with sleeves, tucked in, and tailored trousers or knee-length shorts; jeans, cargo shorts and elastic-waisted pants are not allowed, and only soft spikes are permitted. In summer the course and golf shop open at 6:30am, except Tuesdays, when the course opens at 11am.
Practice facilities, for members and their guests, include a 250-metre driving range, a separate short game area and two putting greens. The golf shop has a team of PGA teaching professionals. The clubhouse restaurant and terrace look over the 18th fairway, serving breakfast and lunch until 3pm, with the bar open until 7pm.
