About the course
Balgowlah Golf Club is a 9-hole course on Sydney Road at Balgowlah, on the edge of Sydney's Northern Beaches and about 25 minutes from the CBD. The nine is a par 33 for men, with three par 3s and six par 4s, and is played twice for an 18-hole round. Creeks, ponds, trees and neighbouring houses come into play, and several greens have been rebuilt with multiple levels.
- 3rd: a 215-metre par 3 from the back tee, between a hazard on the left and trees on the right.
- 6th: the longest hole and number one on the index, a 411-metre par 4 (a par 5 for women) with a pond right and a creek left of the green.
- 8th: an uphill par 3 of just over 100 metres.
The course is open to the public every day. Visitor fees are $31.50 for nine holes and $50 for 18 on any day, with concession and student rates of $28 and $45, and juniors from $10. Twilight nine holes cost $22 from 3pm (4pm in daylight saving). Midweek deals include nine holes for $23 between 12 and 2pm on Mondays and Thursdays and $27.50 on Tuesdays. Bookings are preferred, online or through the pro shop on 02 9949 2057. Visitors with a Golf Australia handicap can enter the Tuesday 18-hole competition, the Thursday nine-hole medley and the Sunday nine-hole stableford. A collared shirt is required, golf shoes are not, and no BYO alcohol is allowed.
Head professional Matt Grenot runs the pro shop, which handles club, buggy and cart hire, repairs, lessons using FlightScope and group clinics. The clubhouse has a bar overlooking the course, and the Gusto on the Green cafe is open seven days.
