About the course
Cammeray Golf Club has played in Cammeray Park on Sydney's lower north shore since 1906, when golfers from the Neutral Bay Tennis Club leased bushland looking down on Middle Harbour and cleared it for a six-hole course, fencing the greens against grazing army horses and dairy cattle. The clubhouse moved to its present site in 1938. In the 1960s the Warringah Freeway cut the course in two and a new nine-hole layout followed, which lasted until 2021. Freeway upgrades then took about 40 per cent of the land, and construction of a reconfigured course began in 2022.
The result is a nine-hole, par-3 course of about 1,040 metres, with holes from 76 to 161 metres and undulating greens. The 1st (154 metres), where the club advises against going long, and the 9th (161 metres) are the longest. Shorter tee options help newer golfers, and a round of nine takes a little over an hour.
The course is public and anyone can play. Social tee times are available every day, including Saturday mornings, and can be booked online. Green fees are $30 for nine holes on weekdays and $40 on weekends, with juniors paying $18 and $24. Club hire is $15, a cart $30 (the club has six) and a pull buggy $5. Enclosed shoes are required; otherwise dress is relaxed. Players under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian aged over 16, and the practice facilities are open to members and to social golfers who have paid a green fee.
The pro shop stocks basics such as gloves, balls and hats, and PGA professional Craig Cox gives private lessons and runs ladies' and junior clinics. The bar opens all day, every day, and Lusso Kitchen serves lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday, including woodfired pizzas. Two beer gardens overlook the course.
