About the course

Blackheath Golf and Community Club is on Brightlands Avenue in Blackheath, in the upper Blue Mountains, and calls itself the highest course in the Mountains. Golf on the site began as a nine-hole links for a guest house called Belvedere, whose ruins still stand on the hill above the 16th fairway. After a public meeting in March 1922 a local company bought the links, and Blackheath Golf Club was formed that June with 22 members. Six more holes were added in 1927 and the full 18 opened in 1931.

A realignment between 1993 and 1995 built seven new greens and two new holes, and produced today's par-69 layout, with the front nine routed inside the back nine. Rhododendrons, maples, azaleas and blossom trees line the parkland fairways, and water is in play on several holes. Social players hit off the white markers (men) and red markers (women).

  • 9th: the hardest hole for men, a 360-metre par 4 that climbs steeply over its last 80 metres.
  • 14th: the toughest par 3, 191 metres and longer again in wind.
  • 17th: a 120-metre par 3 over a large body of water, where the wind swirls.

Visitors can play 9 or 18 holes any day, subject to availability. Weekday fees are $39 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, rising to $49 and $30 on weekends and public holidays, and a visitor cart is $40 for 18 holes. Book through the online guest booking system, call (02) 4787 8406 or email the pro shop. Players with a GA handicap can enter competitions on Wednesdays and Saturdays (men) and Thursdays and Saturdays (women).

The pro shop, run by PGA professionals, stocks Titleist and FootJoy and arranges lessons; it is closed on Mondays. Spikes Bistro opens Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, and the clubhouse has a bar, lounge, open fire and a terrace overlooking the course.
