About the course
Wentworth Falls Country Club was founded in 1913 with a nine-hole course on about 45 acres, and those original holes make up most of today's 2nd to 9th. The course bears the mark of Scottish-born architect Dan Souter, whose other work includes Kingston Heath in Melbourne and Concord and Pymble in Sydney. The club sits 867 metres above sea level on Blaxland Road. Australian champion Edwina Kennedy first picked up a club here as a child.
The 18-hole parkland course plays to par 70 over 5,755 metres from the blue tees, and par 74 from the red tees. The club says its slope ratings, 123 for men and 133 for women, are the highest in the Mountains, and it hosts an annual Jack Newton junior tournament. Mountain pines and eucalypts line the fairways and walking is mostly easy; the test lies in driving accuracy and quick, sloping greens of mostly bent grass with some poa.
- 1st: a 377-metre par 4 with a narrow landing area between water on the right and trees on the left, to a two-tier green.
- 11th: a 188-metre par 3 from an elevated tee to a large two-level green bunkered front, back and right.
- 17th: a 467-metre par 5 where a drive down the left shortens the hole, with trees, a bunker and out of bounds waiting for a wayward second.
The course is public. Midweek fees are $45 for 18 holes and $30 for 10 holes, and weekends are $52 and $30. Carts cost $45 for 18 holes and $30 for 10. Book online or call 02 4757 1202. Men's and women's competitions run on Thursdays and Saturdays, with an 18-hole medley stableford on Tuesdays; the other days are social golf.
Practice facilities include a 150-metre practice fairway, a 50-metre short-game area with green and bunker, two driving nets and a putting green. The pro shop stocks Titleist and FootJoy and hires carts, clubs and buggies. The clubhouse has a bar, outdoor terrace, fireside seating, barbecue and showers.
