About the course

Catalina Club is on Beach Road, about 1.5 kilometres south of the Batemans Bay town centre. Golf began here in 1920 as a five-hole course with oiled sand greens beside a local racing track. The course moved to grass greens and grew to 18 holes in the late 1950s and 1960s, largely through the work of early groundsmen Athol and Claude Manns, and a third nine opened in 1990. The club takes its name from the Catalina seaplanes that landed on the river in the 1950s, and a young Greg Norman collected his first professional prize money at a South Coast tournament here.

The 27 holes are parkland, laid out beside the Clyde River estuary among native she-oaks, with kikuyu fairways and tees and bent and poa greens. They are played as three 18-hole combinations: the Old Course (holes 1 to 18, par 72, used for many championship rounds), the West Course (10 to 27) and the Composite (1 to 9 and 19 to 27). Architect Harley Kruse rebuilt the 380-metre par 4 15th in 2021 with new bunkering and a larger green, and a wider redevelopment by Clayton, DeVries & Pont and KruseGolf is planned from 2026 to 2030. Kangaroos graze the fairways.

  • 14th: the signature hole, a 140-metre par 3 with water to the front and right of the green.
  • 23rd: a 190-metre par 3 with hazards around the green, rated by the club as its hardest short hole.

Visitors can play seven days, with tee times fitted around member competitions; book through the Golf Shop on (02) 4472 4386. The 2026/27 visitor green fees are $68 for 18 holes and $41 for nine from Sunday to Friday, and $78 and $49 on Saturday. Visitor carts are $56 for 18 and $39 for nine, and premium hire sets are available.

Facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a golf shop open 6am to 6pm under Director of Golf Rodney Booth, with lessons, club repairs and all-abilities golf. The clubhouse has Athol's Sports Bar, a lounge and cocktail bar, a cafe and the 1920 Restaurant, open for lunch and dinner daily.
