About the course

Cromer Golf Club is on Sydney's Northern Beaches, beside Narrabeen Lagoon and bordering Garigal National Park, about 30 minutes' drive from the CBD. The club's story starts on 4 August 1926, when a syndicate met in Manly to buy 105 acres at South Creek on Narrabeen Lake for a golf course. After the first company ran into trouble, builder Max Cooper floated Dee Why Golf Links Ltd, which was officially opened in June 1929, with all 18 holes in play by 1932. It became Cromer Country Club in 1940 and Cromer Golf Club in 1955.

The par 70 course measures 5,990 metres for men (par 72 and 5,302 metres for women), set among bushland with tree-lined fairways, a winding creek and several ponds. Course architect James Wilcher reworked it between 2003 and 2005, rebuilding every tee, building 14 new greens, adding fairway bunkers and bringing a watercourse into play.

  • 4th: the Waterfall hole, a 135-metre par 3 over a creek that runs across the front of the green.
  • 10th: a 503-metre par 5 from a high tee, with ponds and a meandering hazard to negotiate.
  • 12th: a 423-metre par 4 from one of the highest points on the course, with views over Narrabeen Lake.
  • 18th: a 161-metre par 3 finish with a creek short and left and two deep bunkers on the right.

Cromer is a private club for members and their guests. Outside groups can play through corporate golf days, usually held on Tuesdays, with shotgun starts for up to 128 players. A detailed dress code applies on the course and in the clubhouse.

Practice facilities include a range of about 210 metres (range balls from the pro shop between 7am and 4pm), nets, a practice bunker, a chipping area and a putting green, available to members, their guests and booked groups. The pro shop, staffed by PGA professionals, offers fitting, repairs, lessons and clinics, and the clubhouse hosts functions and weddings.
