About the course

Golf Broken Hill Inc is the trading name of the Broken Hill Golf and Country Club, which dates from about 1921. The course sits on Racecourse Road on the northern edge of Broken Hill, next to the racecourse, with open outback country around it. The grassed course opened on 13 March 1993, and kangaroos, emus, goats and echidnas are regular company on the fairways.

The 18 holes play to par 72 for men over 6,154 metres from the white markers, with a front nine of 3,050 metres and a back nine of 3,104 metres. The slope rating is 132 from the whites and 133 from the blues. For women the course is par 71 over 5,082 metres from the red markers, with a slope of 119.

Visitors are welcome and games are booked through the golf shop on 08 8087 9099. Green fees are not published online. Visitors can join the weekly competitions but are not eligible for the donated trophy of the day in member events. Competition golf runs seven days a week:

  • Summer: daily medley competitions.
  • Winter season (March to November): ladies, men's and medley competitions.
  • Mondays: an early veterans group, which visitors are welcome to join.

The major events include the 36-hole Outback Open in July. Dress rules require collared shirts with sleeves, dress or walk-style shorts and golf shoes, and men wear socks on the course.

The golf shop opens from 7am to 2.30pm daily and sells clothing, equipment and refreshments, and hires motorised carts. The course is open from 7.30am to 5pm, although the gates can be closed after 2.30pm. There is a practice putting green, and the upstairs clubhouse is available for weddings and private functions.
