About the course

Merbein Golf Club is at 355 McEdward Street, Cabarita, about ten minutes from Mildura. The club was established in 1926 and moved to its current site in the 1930s. It began as a sand-green course and converted to grass greens in 1982, and in June 2024 it opened a new clubhouse built for indoor and outdoor events. The course and clubhouse are run entirely by volunteers, who also staff the Cabarita Post Office inside the clubhouse.

The 18 holes are set among Mallee trees with grass greens and plenty of native birds. Men play to par 72 over 5,912 metres (scratch rating 71, slope 114) and women to par 72 over 5,016 metres (scratch rating 72, slope 129). Recent capital works upgraded the irrigation to secure water for the grass and tees.

The course is open to visitors any day, any time. Pay $22 through the Vendi pay machine, which includes a $2.50 transaction fee, or $42 for two players, or pay cash at the clubhouse. Three Vendi carts can be booked online for three hours ($34), five hours ($39.50) or twilight ($25), and pull buggies cost $5. Carts must stay 10 metres from greens and off the tees. Competitions are played on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12pm, and during daylight saving there is also nine-hole golf on Fridays, including after 5pm.

The clubhouse is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 5pm, Friday meals are posted on the club's Facebook page, and the clubrooms can be hired for functions.
