About the course

South Broken Hill Golf Club plays on Duff Street in Broken Hill, the far west New South Wales city about 1,150 kilometres west of Sydney, roughly a 13-hour drive. Broken Hill Airport is less than ten minutes away by car.

The course is an 18-hole outback layout on red soil, a dirt course with scrapes rather than grass greens. It plays to par 72 from both sets of tees: 6,258 metres from the white tees (course rating 71, slope 118) and 5,213 metres from the red tees (rating 72, slope 114). Each nine is par 36, with par 5s at the 4th, 10th and 12th and par 3s at the 9th, 13th and 15th.

  • 4th: a 475-metre par 5 from the white tees.
  • 9th: the shortest hole, a 123-metre par 3.
  • 10th: the longest hole, a 507-metre par 5 that opens the back nine.
  • 13th and 15th: two long par 3s of 196 and 199 metres.

Golf NSW lists social golf as available on every day of the week. Green fees, visitor conditions and competition days are not published online, so contact the club on 08 8087 4639 before visiting.

Broken Hill was the first city in Australia to be heritage listed, and pubs, historic cottages, campgrounds, farm stays, hotels and motels give visitors a range of places to stay.
