About the course
Highlands Golf Club is on the Old Hume Highway at Mittagong, with its clubhouse beneath Mount Alexandra and the Nattai River running in front of the 18th green. It opened on 2 October 1926 as the Mittagong Municipal Golf Links, on land cleared by bullock team and volunteers for the local council. Carnegie Clark, later the club's first professional, designed the original layout, and his son Hastings Clark built the course's first grass green in 1933, now the 18th. A breakaway group ran a separate nine-hole course from 1933 to 1940, golf stopped during the war years, and after the club was disbanded in mid-1961 it was reformed that November. An old quarry near today's 15th was once known as the snake pit.
The 18-hole course plays to par 70 for men from the black, blue and white tees, and to par 73 from the women's black tees and par 71 from the yellow, with slope ratings from 111 to 126. The club is planning further renovations.
Visitors pay $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine on weekdays, and $55 and $38 at weekends (2026/27 fees). Juniors pay $20 and $12, weekday twilight after 2pm is $25, and a Tuesday and Thursday special costs $59 for one player or $89 for two. Visitors can enter competitions for $45 on weekdays and $55 at weekends. Visitor carts cost $54 for 18 holes and $32 for nine. Social rounds can be booked online through GolfNow.
PGA professionals Luke Bessant and Anthony Storich of Measured Golf run the pro shop and offer private and group lessons and junior and ladies clinics. The clubhouse bar and Vito's Rustic Table bistro serve lunch from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm to 2:30pm, and dinner on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
