About the course

Mount Broughton Golf & Country Club is on Kater Road at Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands, roughly halfway between Sydney and Canberra and a short drive off the Hume Highway (M31). The course was co-designed by the championship golfers Frank Phillips and Bill Dunk, who based it on the links courses of Scotland, and it has since been fully redeveloped. It shares the Mount Broughton Estate, with 185 acres of established gardens, with Peppers Manor House.

The 18-hole, par 72 layout has a links character, with rye grass roughs, natural waterways, reed and heather plantings and rolling fairways, and plenty of wildlife. It has a mix of short, medium and long holes. The greens are around 600 square metres, which allows a wide range of pin positions, and there are five sets of tees: championship, membership, regular, ladies and social.

Visitors are welcome seven days a week between 6am and 6pm. Tee times are booked through the pro shop by phone or email, members have priority and groups go off at 10-minute intervals. Green fees are the same every day: $75 for 18 holes and $50 for nine walking. Motorised carts are $60 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, and trundle trolleys $5. Players 18 and under pay $50 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, and children 12 and under play free. The dress code calls for collared shirts and tailored shorts or trousers, with no denim or football clothing, and golf shoes must be worn on the course and practice areas. Carts must be kept at least 10 metres from greens.

The full-length driving range has distance markers, grass tees, a practice bunker and a chipping green, with buckets of 50 balls for $15 and 100 balls for $25. PGA teaching professional Bill Exten gives lessons, from $125 an hour for visitors, as well as on-course lessons and small-group clinics. Accommodation and dining are next door at Peppers Manor House.
