About the course
Moss Vale Golf Club is on Arthur Street in Moss Vale, in the Southern Highlands. The club dates from 1902, when its first games were played on a member's property at Sutton Forest. In 1904 it leased land behind the Royal Hotel in Moss Vale and brought in the professional Carnegie Clark to lay out a course, and Clark returned in 1908 after the club bought its own land. The Dormie House hotel opened in 1934 with 55 guest rooms, and more land took the course to 18 holes in 1936, and the layout has changed little since.
The course is par 71 over 5,805 metres from the blue tees and par 73 over 5,300 metres from the red tees. A creek runs through the property and is crossed 12 times in a round, and the greens are known for being hard to read. Recent events include the PGA Legends Pro Am (2022 to 2024) and a WPGA Tour of Australasia event in 2023.
- 1st: a 334-metre par 4 across the creek to a rebuilt, raised green with a deep bunker on the left.
- 4th: a 468-metre par 5 from the highest point on the course; longer hitters can carry the creek short of the green, others lay up between large pine trees.
- 6th: a 155-metre par 3 over a dam to a green ringed by tall trees.
Visitors can book tee times online. Visitor green fees are $60 for 18 holes midweek and $70 at weekends, and visitors entering a competition pay $55 on Monday and Thursday, $65 on Tuesday and Wednesday and $75 at weekends. Cart hire is $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, hire clubs are $35 and a hand buggy $7.
The pro shop, run by head professional Davyd Reeves, is open every day and offers lessons, clinics, club fitting and repairs. The Bar & Restaurant at Dormie House opens daily from 7.30am for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with high tea on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (bookings essential, minimum four people). The club-owned Dormie House also offers accommodation and stay-and-play packages for groups.
