About the course
Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club lies on a peninsula between Tuggerah Lake and the Pacific Ocean on the Central Coast, with Wyrrabalong National Park to the north and Sydney about 90 minutes away by car. Architect Ross Watson inspected the sandy, undulating site in the early 2000s, and every dune, bump and hollow on the course was shaped during construction. The club is owned by its members.
The par-72 links measures about 6,320 metres from the back tees. Ocean views feature on parts of the front nine, while the back nine runs beside rainforest and the national park, and sea breezes are a constant factor. The sand base drains well, so the course often stays playable when other Central Coast and Sydney courses are closed after rain.
- 2nd: a 523-metre par 5 that sweeps right along the ocean foreshore.
- 9th: rated the hardest hole, a 438-metre par 4 for men (par 5 for women), very long into the wind, to a split-level green with a false front.
- 15th: the signature hole, a 124-metre par 3 facing due east and exposed to the weather, with a 26-metre green bunkered on both sides.
As a private club, Magenta Shores admits visitors in three ways: by becoming members, by staying at the Pullman Magenta Shores Resort on a stay-and-play basis, or as golfers with an active Golf ID number. Tee times are requested through the club's website or by calling (02) 4316 5600; visitor green fees are not published online. Collared shirts must be tucked in, tracksuits, T-shirts and distressed denim are not allowed, and every golfer must carry a sand bucket.
Practice facilities include a warm-up driving range, putting greens and chipping areas with bunkers, plus an indoor golf studio opened in 2024. The pro shop opens 6.30am to 5pm daily, stocks Titleist, FootJoy and Ping, and offers club fitting, hire sets and cart hire. Lessons with head professional Gavin Sutherland and his team run Tuesday to Saturday by appointment.
