About the course

Toukley Golf Club is on bushland that juts into Budgewoi Lake at Toukley, about halfway between Sydney and Newcastle on the Central Coast. The club was incorporated in 1970 and held its official opening day in April 1971. Members built much of the course and clubhouse themselves, starting with a work shed donated by Munmorah Power Station. A flood in 1974 put almost the whole course under water, and work on the back nine and a perimeter levee began in 1976. Tim Woolbank designed the original course. Toukley hosted the NSW PGA Touring Players' Championship for five years from 2005.

The course plays as a par 72 for men and a par 74 for women. It measures 6,142 metres from the blue tees. The front nine is lined with tall paperbark tea trees. The back nine winds through inland lakes and wetlands and is open to the wind, giving it a links feel. Fairways and rough are couch, tees a mix of kikuyu and couch, and the greens mostly bent grass. Recycled-water irrigation lets players take the ball as it lies most of the year.

Public tee times vary by day. They run all day on Mondays and Thursdays and after midday or mid-afternoon on the other days, so check with the pro shop. Visitors pay $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, with carts at $50 and $36. Tee times can be booked online. Visitors can enter competitions for $42. The weekly program:

  • Tuesday: women's competition.
  • Wednesday: men's competition.
  • Thursday: nine-hole twilight teams event after 3pm, October to March.
  • Friday: mixed pro shop competition.
  • Saturday and Sunday: men's and women's Saturday competitions and a mixed Sunday event.

Men need collared shirts and soft spikes, with no football jerseys or board shorts. An Oncourse Golf pro shop and a bistro operate at the club.
