About the course
Shelly Beach Golf Club is at the eastern end of Shelly Beach Road on the Central Coast, on gently rolling ground above Shelly Beach and about an hour's drive from both Sydney and Newcastle.
The 18-hole course plays to par 71 for men, with fairways lined by pines and melaleucas, and coastal wind is a factor on many holes, typically a north-easterly on summer afternoons. The 9th, a 160-metre par 3 with a 40-metre green, is the newest hole on the course.
- 2nd: the index 1 hole for men, a 395-metre uphill par 4 with deep fairway bunkers and a green that slopes sharply from left to right.
- 6th: a 333-metre par 4 with the ocean on the left, out of bounds the full length of the hole and water short of a green guarded by four deep bunkers.
- 15th: a 401-metre par 5 that is reachable in two from the fairway, to a narrow green bunkered on three sides.
- 18th: the longest hole, a 534-metre uphill par 5.
Social golfers are welcome seven days at set times: from 11.30am on Mondays and Fridays (competition days, when visitors may also enter), from 12.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12pm on Wednesdays and from 12.30pm on weekends. Weekday visitor fees are $70 for 18 holes, or $50 from 3pm; weekends are $75 and $55. There are no nine-hole rates; a $10 holiday surcharge applies from 1 December to 31 January. The golf shop opens 6am to 6pm daily (from 7am on Wednesdays, and until 7pm in daylight saving) and offers free fitting with club purchases. There is a chipping green and practice nets. The clubhouse has a bistro open for lunch and dinner seven days, bars, a beer garden, snooker tables and a local courtesy bus on Thursday to Sunday evenings.
