About the course
Muirfield Golf Club is in North Rocks in Sydney's north-west Hills district, about five minutes from the Pennant Hills interchange on the M2 and 25 minutes from the city. The course took shape after the Second World War on land owned by Sydney dentist Dr Walter Wearn, who saw it as a course for his wife Polly, a keen golfer. The club was incorporated on 31 December 1953 and, with the agreement of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, took the name the Australian Muirfield Golf Club. In 1988 the members bought the course outright from the Wearn family for $2 million.
The 18-hole course is an easy-walking parkland layout with tree-lined fairways, bunkering and water hazards.
Muirfield is a members' club that also takes public bookings. Tee times must be booked online or by phone, and walk-ins are not accepted. Green fees from 1 July 2026 are $70 for 18 holes and $45 for nine, seven days, with lower rates for seniors, students and juniors. Weekday twilight golf after 4pm is $50 in daylight saving and $35 otherwise. Carts cost $50 for 18 holes and $30 for nine. Members of other clubs can enter open competitions and designated invitation and Sunday medley events for $45 plus the competition fee, up to six times a year, with proof of full playing membership. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays social play opens after 3:30pm.
Neat golf attire is required, with no denim, tracksuits or sports shorts on the course. The golf shop, led by Director of Golf Simon Vale, sells apparel and equipment, hires carts, clubs and buggies, and repairs clubs, and a tech centre with a TrackMan system is used for lessons. The clubhouse has a members' bar and Chef's Clubhouse, a Chinese restaurant open for lunch and dinner Thursday to Sunday.
