About the course
Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club is a private members' club on Victoria Road, West Ryde. A nine-hole course was built on the site in 1926 by the landowner, City Mutual Life Assurance Society, and opened with a professionals' tournament in July 1927. Ryde Golf Club was incorporated in 1930 and extended the course to 18 holes in 1932. When Parramatta Golf Club closed in 1934 its members joined, and in 1935 the club took the name Ryde-Parramatta. Members bought the freehold in 1945, so the club owns its land. It hosted the 1992 NSW Open, won by Craig Parry, and the 1974 Australian Junior Interstate Series, when a young Greg Norman played.
Ross Watson redesigned the course between 1997 and 2000. It is par 71, with an Australian rating of par 72, laid over gently undulating ground lined with eucalypts, grevilleas and banksias, with large, gently sloping bent grass greens. Streams and lakes come into play on many holes.
- 11th: a 538-metre par 5 that starts with a drive over a lake and bends left beside a stream to a raised green.
- 18th: a 542-metre par 5 that doglegs left and then right.
The club does not publish visitor green fees or public tee times. Non-members can play through corporate and charity golf days, which give guests use of the course, practice areas, carts and clubhouse. The course is open from 6am to 6pm daily, and a dress code applies.
Practice areas include a 19th hole used for short-game work, a nursery green, a 100-metre grass range with nets and bunkers, and a putting green beside the clubhouse. The golf shop, open 6am to 6pm, offers lessons, custom fitting, repairs and a GC Quad simulator. Villaggio, an Italian and Mediterranean restaurant, is open to members and visitors daily from 11.30am.
