About the course
Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club is on Stuart Island in the Nambucca River at Nambucca Heads, on the Mid North Coast, with the river surrounding the course. It began as a nine-hole course on the island, and in 1992 the club opened a second nine designed by Ross Watson. The layout has changed little since. The clubhouse has grown over the years and looks out over the river.
The 18-hole course is a par 69 on flat ground, so it is an easy walk, with fairways lined by sheoak and paperbark trees. The greens are bentgrass, the result of decades of work by the club.
The club welcomes golfers every day. Social play is available all day from 7am on Sunday, Monday and Friday, and from 12.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, after the morning competitions. Visitors can play in all competitions: a medley stableford on Tuesday, women's events on Wednesday, and medley events on Thursday and Saturday, with the monthly medal on the first Saturday of each month. Green fees are $50 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, twilight golf after 4pm is $20 and juniors pay $10. Carts are $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine. Call the club on 02 6569 4111 for tee times.
The pro shop opens from 7am to 5pm daily and is run by head professional Paul Habgood, a PGA professional who previously led the shops at Kempsey and Toowoomba. He offers private and group lessons and repairs, with demonstration clubs from Callaway, Ping and Mizuno. The Island Restaurant serves lunch from Tuesday to Sunday and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, with trivia on Tuesday, schnitzel night on Wednesday and stone grill steaks on Thursday. The club also has a function room with river views and a squash section.
