About the course
Paterson Golf Club is a community-built course on Webbers Creek Road at Paterson in the Hunter. Its roots go back to a social golf group formed at the Courthouse Hotel in 1971. Work on the present course began in September 1991 with Dungog Shire Council's approval: volunteers cleared the scrub while keeping the large trees, desilted the central dam and planted around 200 native trees. The first five holes opened on 30 October 1994, the last four on 22 September 1996, and the full course was officially opened that October.
The course has nine holes, each played twice from different layouts for an 18-hole round of par 64, made up of eight par 3s and ten par 4s. It runs through bushland of gums and ironbarks, with elevated tees and greens, doglegs, dams and hard-pan lies, and has only one bunker.
- 2nd/11th: a driveable par 4 with out of bounds left and the course's single bunker.
- 3rd/12th: the hardest hole, to an elevated two-tier green.
- 5th/14th: the signature par 3, from an elevated tee in the bush.
- 16th: the longest and most demanding par 3.
The course is open to the public seven days during daylight hours. Social golf needs no booking and is available all day Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and after 11am on Tuesday and Saturday. Visitors pay $20 for a social round (juniors $10), by card at the Vendi terminal, and $30 to enter an open competition or $25 for a veterans event; visitors book competitions by email. There is no club or cart hire, but private carts are allowed subject to signage and course conditions. The club's events include the Paterson Open and the Paterson Veterans Open.
