About the course

Darwin Golf Club is at 5 Links Road in the Marrara sporting precinct in Darwin's northern suburbs, a few minutes from Darwin International Airport and about 15 minutes' drive from the CBD. The 18-hole tropical championship course was designed by Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge.

The course is par 72 from every tee. The white men's tees rate 68 with a slope of 114, the blue tees 71 (slope 120) and the red women's tees 72 (slope 120). Out of bounds runs down one or both sides of most holes. Holes to note:

  • 1st: a 466-metre par 5 with a ridge across the fairway about 90 metres short of the green.
  • 7th: a 514-metre par 5 with a lateral water hazard on the right, often into a headwind.
  • 8th: a 161-metre par 3 over water from the blue tees, the only hole without out of bounds.
  • 14th: a 521-metre par 5, stroke index 1.
  • 16th: a 177-metre par 3 with out of bounds both sides, the hardest of the short holes.

The course is open to the public seven days. Social tee times run from 7am to 4.30pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday, around internal events. On competition days (Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays) social golfers can start from the 10th tee between 7am and 8am, or play nine holes from 4pm. Green fees are $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine on weekdays, and $50 and $40 at weekends. Carts cost $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine and should be booked. Book online or through the pro shop on (08) 8927 1322. Golf or athletic wear and golf or enclosed sports shoes are required, with no singlets, workwear or high-vis.

Practice facilities include a floodlit driving range, putting greens, a chipping green and a practice bunker, free to use apart from range balls. The pro shop opens 6.30am to 6.30pm daily and offers fitting and repairs. The clubhouse has a bistro, sports bar, TAB, gaming room and playground.
