About the course
RAAF Darwin Golf Club was established in 1970 on land to the west of Darwin Airport, and volunteers built the course and still maintain it. It is a Defence welfare club that provides affordable golf for ADF members and their families, and the course is also open to the public for social and competition play. Access is from the Stuart Highway, not Bagot Road. Each October the club hosts the ADFGA NT Inter-Service championship between Navy, Army and Air Force.
The course has nine holes with 18 tee blocks.
Because the club is run by volunteers, the course is open whenever the weather allows, even if the clubhouse is closed. Social players do not need to book: turn up and wait for the tee to clear. Green fees are $20 for civilians and $15 for ADF members, whether you play nine or 18 holes, payable at the bar, by EFT, or in cash through the honesty box when the bar is shut. The main handicap competition is every Saturday, when the course is closed to green fee players from 7.30am to 3.30pm; non-members with a valid Golflink number can email raafgolf16@gmail.com to enter. Social nine-hole events open to non-members and players without handicaps include the Tuesday vets' competition for over-50s, the Thursday afternoon Burglars chook run ($20 for non-members, green fee included) and a relaxed Sunday morning Stableford with a 9.30am tee-off. The course can also close for club and corporate events, which are posted on the club calendar. Collared shirts, fitted shorts or slacks and covered shoes are required; singlets, collarless t-shirts, football shorts and thongs are not allowed, and hats are not worn in the clubhouse.
The clubhouse bar opens on Saturday 7am to 7pm, Sunday 9am to 4pm, Tuesday noon to 6pm, Thursday noon to 7pm and Friday 2pm to 5pm. Phone 0459 746 306 during those hours. Civilian memberships are available.
