About the course

The Croydon Savannah Golf Course is a council-run nine-hole course on the edge of Croydon, set behind the town's rodeo grounds. From Cairns, the drive follows the Savannah Way through Kuranda, Mareeba, Atherton, Mount Surprise and Georgetown. Croydon Shire Council says the layout was endorsed by Greg Norman's professional team in 2011.

The tees and greens are artificial turf, and the fairways wind through stands of ti-tree and over creeks, with savannah grassland as the rough. The council's scorecard shows nine holes of par 34 over 2,261 metres, with a second nine on the card for an 18-hole round. The holes range from a 75-metre par 3 at the 4th to the only par 5, the 497-metre 3rd. The council pitches the course as easy enough for beginners while still testing experienced players.

Play is free and the course is open to everyone. A self-guided map can be picked up from the True Blue Visitor Information Centre on Samwell Street, and a course map and printable scorecard can be downloaded from the council website. Guests at the council's Croydon Caravan Park can ask for golf equipment if they have not brought their own clubs. The council page lists no opening hours or booking arrangements; for questions, contact Croydon Shire Council on (07) 4748 7100.
