About the course
Cape Wickham Golf Links is at the northern end of King Island in Bass Strait, under an hour's flight from Melbourne, and its holes are routed around the Cape Wickham Lighthouse. Construction was completed in late 2015 to a design by Mike DeVries of the United States and Darius Oliver of Australia, and every hole has a view of the ocean.
The par 72 links measures 6,150 metres from the blue tees, with white and red tees as well. Tees, fairways and greens are all fescue, and the undulating ground normally plays firm, so low, running shots and ground contours are useful.
- 1st: a 340-metre par 4 facing Bass Strait, with the lighthouse and Victoria Cove in view and a two-tier green guarded by three bunkers.
- 18th: a 395-metre par 4 that bends right around Victoria Cove beach. A cliff runs the length of the hole, the beach is in play, and the long green has a single bunker at the front left.
The course is open to the public. For 2026 the Australian resident green fee is $235 for 18 holes and $130 for nine (international $315 and $175). Online booking is not yet available, so tee times are booked by phone or email. The 36 motorised carts should be booked in advance; carts are $55 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, and rental clubs $55 a day. Caddies need to be booked at least two weeks ahead. Dress is neat casual: tailored shorts or slacks, no football jumpers, t-shirts, tracksuits or thongs, and soft spikes are preferred.
There are 16 villa rooms on site, and in-house guests get all-day golf for the price of 18 holes. Near the villas is the Lighthouse Loop, a 12-hole putting course on a half-acre green. The clubhouse serves breakfast from 7am to 10am and dinner from 6pm to 8.30pm, with dinner bookings essential; non-golfers are welcome if they book.
