About the course
Apollo Bay Golf Club occupies Point Bunbury, the headland beside Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road. The course is exposed to the elements, so it can play quite differently from one day to the next, and it has sea and hill views throughout.
There are nine holes on flat ground, four par 3s and five par 4s, with grass greens and nine bunkers. Alternate tees on some holes and a second green on another make an 18-hole round of 4223 metres, par 64 for men and 66 for women. Tall Norfolk pines and cypresses come into play on several holes.
- 2nd/11th: a 255-metre dogleg left that long hitters may try to drive, with out of bounds short of the green near the equipment shed and behind it.
- 7th/16th: the hardest hole, a long par 3 to a small green that slopes sharply from back to front.
- 8th: a long par 3 from an elevated tee, played past a tall Norfolk pine in front of the tee.
The course is open all year but closes to the public for some tournaments. Pay at the Vendi tap machine beside the 1st tee or book ahead through Bookatee. The club's pricing page lists $45 for 18 holes and $37.50 for nine, or $50 for the day, with juniors $17.75 a day, while its home page advertises all-day golf for $35, so check the current rate. Weekly and three-month passes are also sold. Pull buggies are free, clubs can be hired for $20, and electric carts, reserved for players with mobility issues, cost $45 for nine holes and $55 for 18.
Practice facilities are a set of nets and a short practice field, and a vending machine on the verandah sells balls, tees and snacks.
