About the course

Colebrook Golf Club is a nine-hole country course on Barton Vale Road at Campania, in the Coal River Valley about 35 km north-east of Hobart. The club was formed in 1952 by Roy Murray, the local railway station master, with a group of locals, and Joe French was its first champion that year.

The club has moved once. Its first course was on leased farmland where sheep still grazed, and the original shed clubhouse was lost in the 1967 bushfires that also destroyed the town's hotel, school and railway station. In 1981 the lease was ended in the middle of the men's championship, and after a tied committee vote the club borrowed money to buy its present land on Barton Vale Road. Members cleared the stones from the fairways by hand, Ted Gilligan, head greenkeeper at Tasmania Golf Club, helped map the fairways, and individual members built each of the greens. A layout change in the early 1990s brought the finishing hole in front of the clubhouse, which is a house donated during the Craigbourne Dam project and moved to the course.

The club's website gives little detail on the course itself, fees or visitor times, so call the club on 03 6260 4402 before you travel.
