About the course
Tasmania Golf Club is a private members' club on a headland above Barilla Bay at Cambridge, just beyond Hobart Airport. It grew out of the Lindisfarne Golf Club, formed on Hobart's eastern shore in 1925. When the State Government acquired the Lindisfarne course in the late 1960s, the club bought the present site in 1968, and Governor Sir Edric Bastyan opened the new course on 16 January 1971. Al Howard designed it, and course superintendent Ian Grimsey oversaw construction. The club has hosted the Australian Amateur, the Australian Junior Amateur and the Tasmanian Open.
The course measures 6,214 metres, par 72 for men and par 74 for women, with views over Pittwater, Five Mile Beach, the Coal River Valley and Mount Wellington. Fairways are mostly lined with eucalypts, sheoaks and native grasses, and the large, sloping greens are well bunkered and exposed to the wind. In July 2023 the nines were swapped and the order changed to suit the planned Tasman Highway upgrade, so hole numbers differ from older guides. The tees are blue (front), white (middle) and gold (back).
- 5th: the longest hole, a 539-metre par 5 from a high tee to a green 44 metres deep.
- 12th: the signature hole (formerly the 3rd), a 515-metre par 5 that bends left around the shore of Barilla Bay from a clifftop tee.
- 18th: a 419-metre par 4 with a narrow landing area and a two-tier green, ranked the hardest on the course.
Visitors are welcome all year. Competitions run seven days a week and handicap holders can enter, while social players need no handicap. Book by phoning the office on weekdays, the pro shop on weekends, or by email. For 2026-27 the Tasmanian resident fee is $100 for 18 holes and $60 for nine (interstate $140 and $90, international $165 and $100), and carts are $59 for 18 holes.
The pro shop opens seven days and its PGA professionals coach, including TrackMan lessons. Practice facilities include a 300-metre driving range, a putting green with chipping area and a short-game area. The restaurant serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner Wednesday to Saturday.
