About the course
Devonport Country Club's golf course sits at Woodrising Avenue in Spreyton, on the outskirts of Devonport, and dates from 1921. The golf course is one part of a larger sporting club that also runs an indoor bowls centre with eight rinks, three outdoor bowls greens, two croquet courts and function rooms.
The 18-hole course is par 70 from the longer tees, with two nines of par 35. The terrain is fairly flat with gently rolling fairways, and the holes are lined with trees and well bunkered. There are four par 3s and only two par 5s, and from the shorter tees the 1st, 6th, 11th and 15th become par 5s.
- 3rd: the longest hole, a 457-metre par 5.
- 6th: a 404-metre par 4, the longest of the two-shot holes.
- 9th and 10th: back-to-back par 3s of 136 and 127 metres either side of the turn.
- 14th: the longest short hole at 199 metres.
The course is open to the public and tee times can be booked online. Green fees are $80 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, or $60 and $40 for Tasmanian residents; juniors under 18 pay $15. Members of other clubs can enter competitions for $65 plus the day's competition fee ($45 for Tasmanian residents). A social weekly stableford runs on most days that are not set aside for club events. Carts cost non-members $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine.
There is a driving range with buckets from $5 to $20, and lessons are available from the club's professional instructor. The club's Woodrising venue has a casual Sports Bar and Restaurant looking over the indoor bowls centre, and caters for functions and weddings. An RV park is on site.
