About the course

Sheffield Golf Club's course, known as Badger Heights, is on Nook Road about 3.2 kilometres from the centre of Sheffield and about 30 kilometres south of Devonport, with Mount Roland and the Badgers range in view. Golf in Sheffield goes back to the late 1890s, when a course stood on the corner of Main Street and West Kentish Road, the longest-lived of four courses before Badger Heights. The present club was formed at a public meeting on 6 September 1976 with 30 foundation members. Its first clubhouse was a disused building from the Gowrie Park hydro village, the first official game was played on six holes in April 1977, and nine holes were open by 1979. The club marks its 50th anniversary in 2026.

The nine-hole course is undulating, and alternate tees give the back nine a different look: white (front) and yellow (back) for the longer tees, red and blue for the shorter.

Visitors are welcome for most of the year, including on competition days. The green fee is $20 a day, which also covers the competition fee if you play in one, and $5 for juniors under 18. Club hire, including left-handed sets, is $15 a day and the one cart is $30. Fill in a ticket at the green fee box near the clubhouse entrance and pay at the bar, by cash envelope or by bank transfer.

  • Tuesday: competition, usually a 9:30am shotgun start, traditionally for veterans and women.
  • Saturday: competition, usually a 10:30am shotgun start.

Monthly medals are held on the first competition day of each month. The club has a clubhouse with a bar, a practice green and a driving net.
