About the course
Greens Beach Golf Club is on Greens Beach Road at Greens Beach, on the shore of Bass Strait about an hour's drive north of Launceston. It was established in 1950 as a private club open to both members and visitors, and the course is a sand-belt layout that mixes traditional, resort and links-style holes.
It is a nine-hole course played twice from alternate tees for a par of 71, about 5660 metres from the men's markers going by the club's hole-by-hole card. Because each hole has a second tee, the round changes on the way back:
- 1st/10th: a 437-metre par 5 first time round, then a 377-metre par 4.
- 4th/13th: a 393-metre par 4 that becomes a 473-metre par 5, the longest hole on the card.
- 6th/15th: the shortest hole, a par 3 of 122 metres and then 132 metres.
- 9th/18th: a 451-metre par 5 to close the front nine and a 385-metre par 4 to finish.
Visitors are welcome year-round and the course is open seven days. Green fees are $30 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, and bookings are made by contacting the clubhouse. Golf carts cost visitors $35 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, and the club suggests booking one ahead; buggies are $5 and club hire $25. Non-members can enter many club competitions, and on non-guest days a $25 green fee covers the competition fee. The dress code asks for collared shirts and tailored shorts or trousers with golf or approved shoes, and rules out thongs, work boots, tracksuits and singlets.
Practice facilities are nets, a 100-metre practice fairway and a practice green. The clubhouse bar opens daily (hours vary), stocks Tasmanian beer, wine and spirits and sells takeaways, and the clubhouse can be hired for functions. The club also hires out two tennis courts at $15 a day.
