About the course
Ulverstone Golf Club plays at Allison, across the Leven River from Ulverstone off Lobster Creek Road, about 11 minutes from the town centre and 22 minutes from Devonport. The club formed on 8 March 1911 and first played five holes on the old showgrounds, then moved to a nine-hole course at Water Street, opened in 1922. It bought the Allison land in 1961, and course architect Al Howard drew up the plan in 1964. Volunteers led by greenkeeper Tom Britton built the course over 14 years, and the club left Water Street for good in October 1976. Long-time member Roy Stott won the 1968 Australian Amateur at Royal Hobart.
The 18-hole par-72 course runs through eucalypt forest beside the river, with watered fairways that are lined with trees and undulate. Birds and other wildlife are common, and the club's emblem is an echidna.
The course is open seven days and everyone is welcome; phone the pro shop on (03) 6425 2322 to book and check for tournaments. Green fees are $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine for locals and Tasmanian handicap holders, and $60 and $40 for interstate visitors. Visitors hire carts for $45 (18) or $35 (nine).

- Thursday: members' 18 holes, plus a nine-hole chicken run from 3pm during daylight saving.
- Saturday: members' 18-hole competition.
Visitors pay $20 to enter a competition ($30 on Saturdays).
The driving range has three upper-level bays and an open area, with buckets from $6 to $18, and there is a large putting green and a chipping green with a bunker. A Trackman simulator room is available all year, and the club's PGA professional offers private lessons, group clinics and a junior program. The bistro is open to non-members, the function centre seats up to 120, and there is an RV park.
