About the course

Exeter Golf Club is a small community club at 41 Main Road, Exeter, run as a public course: anyone can play, seven days a week, without joining. The layout has nine holes, played twice from 18 separate tee positions to make up a full round.

Going by the hole lengths on the club's course map, the 18-hole round measures about 5500 metres to a par of 71. There are three par 5s, the 2nd (436 metres), the 5th (440 metres) and the 14th (442 metres), and the par 3s range from the 137-metre 12th to the 169-metre 16th. The longest par 4 is the 399-metre 11th. Boundary fences and white pegs mark out of bounds, and water hazards are marked with yellow and red pegs.

Public golf runs from 7am to 6pm daily. The club holds competitions on Tuesdays (ladies and members), Wednesdays (veterans) and Saturdays (members), and on those days visitors should tee off once the field is through, usually around 3pm. Tee times can be requested through an online form, which the club confirms by email, and payment is made at the clubhouse in cash or by EFTPOS. The green fee is $30 per day for adults and $15 for under-16s and students, and players from reciprocal clubs play free on weekdays other than public holidays. Non-members can hire a motorised cart for $35, a push buggy for $5 and clubs for $20, which includes a $10 refundable deposit. Dress is neat casual with golf footwear; singlets, thongs, tracksuit pants, sandals and work boots are not allowed.

The licensed clubhouse bar opens to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8.30am to 4pm, and the club also has a driving range. The clubrooms, with kitchen and bar, can be hired for functions from $150.
