About the course

George Town Golf Club was established in 1954 and sits at 4147 East Tamar Highway, Bell Bay, about 7 km south of George Town and the Low Head area at the mouth of the Tamar River. From Launceston it is a drive of about 42 km north, or roughly 30 minutes. The undulating course looks out over Bell Bay and the Tamar River.

The course has nine holes with 18 separate tee beds, so the second nine plays differently from the first. From the men's tees it measures 5,361 metres to a par of 70, and from the women's tees 5,075 metres to a par of 72.

  • 4th: a 466-metre par 5, which becomes a 394-metre par 4 as the 13th.
  • 8th and 17th: par 5s of 430 and 450 metres.
  • 9th: a 387-metre par 4 rated the hardest hole on the card.

The course is open to the public seven days a week outside competition times, and group bookings can be arranged. The club lists a green fee of $25, with juniors $10. Members of other clubs can join the regular Saturday competitions, women's competition is held on Tuesdays, and there are casual nine-hole runs on Wednesday and Friday afternoons: arrive about 1.30pm for a 2pm start. Clubs can be made available with notice, and VendiCarts can be hired by scanning a QR code.

The refurbished clubhouse has a bar that opens on competition days and by arrangement, change rooms and showers, a billiards table, and a squash and tennis court. Its function area, with a stage and dance floor, holds up to 80 people and is used for weddings and community events. The clubhouse phone is 0484 545 179.
