About the course

Quamby Estate Golf Course is part of Quamby Estate, a 150-acre historic property at Hagley in the Meander Valley, a short drive from Launceston. The homestead was completed in 1828 and was home to Sir Richard Dry, the first Tasmanian-born Premier; today it has 10 guest rooms, with an event pavilion in the grounds. Local man Ian MacFarlane built the golf course on high ground at the estate in the early 1990s, and Sir Richard Branson holds the club's number one membership.

The nine-hole course measures 3000 metres and plays to a par of 37, with rural and mountain views. Rows of large mature trees, hedgerows and garden avenues line the fairways, and the course has nine lakes along with cascades, creeks and Scottish-style bunkers filled with refined Scottsdale sand.

The course is open every day to members and the public. Visitors must book ahead during business hours, which the golf page gives as 9am to 4pm and the fees page as 8am to 4pm. Green fees are $25 for nine holes and $30 for 18, with juniors paying $15 and $20, and pull buggies cost $5. Golf clubs, push buggies and basic equipment can be hired. Members may play at any time, including after hours, and annual full, social, young adult and junior memberships are available.

The golf shop in the pavilion opens Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm and sells hot food, snacks and drinks that can be taken onto the course. Quamby is a licensed venue, so BYO alcohol is not permitted on the course. The estate also takes bookings for corporate and private golf events, and hosts weddings and conferences.
