About the course
Tam O'Shanter Golf & Community Club is a volunteer-run club at 19 Fairway Avenue, Tam O'Shanter, near Lulworth, and describes itself as a coastal course. The club began in 1991, when 22 locals led by Keith McLauchlan proposed forming a club on leased land. Working bees cleared the course, the first stage of the clubhouse was built in 1994 with more stages through the 1990s, and by the end of that decade the club had paid off its mortgage. Volunteers still do most of the course and grounds work.
The course has nine holes, played twice for an 18-hole round. Each nine has three par 3s, four par 4s and two par 5s, making a par of 70. The club is affiliated with Golf Australia and the course has an Australian Course Rating of 68.
Visitors pay a green fee of $25 per day for adults and $10 for juniors, by card, cash or bank transfer at the clubhouse. Outside competitions there is no need to book, although the club suggests checking its online calendar for events and large group bookings, and groups of more than 16 should contact the club first. Club competitions are mixed events starting at 9am on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visitors and guests with a GA handicap can play in up to four competitions a year at $10 a round, booking Saturday events on MiScore and registering by 9am on the day for Wednesday's random draw.
The clubhouse has a licensed bar and dining room and opens on Wednesdays from noon to 4pm and on Thursday event days; on Saturdays a caterer serves meals from 1pm to 3pm and from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. The club is also an RV-friendly campsite for up to 10 fully self-contained vans, with no bookings taken and donations welcome.
