About the course

New Town Bay Golf Club is a private nine-hole course at 258 Risdon Road, Lutana, about 10 minutes from the Hobart CBD. It was previously known as the EZ Risdon Golf Club, and its clubhouse looks out over the course and the River Derwent.

The best-known hole is the 9th, a 183-metre par 3 played downhill to a green guarded by two bunkers. The men's course record is 61, first set in 2003 and equalled three times since, most recently in 2023.

Competitions are held every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Wednesday and Saturday rounds must be booked, and the booking has to be made by a member. Visitors from other clubs approved to play in a competition pay $20, which covers green and competition fees. Outside competition times, members of other golf clubs can play socially for $30, or $20 for juniors, however many holes they play, and at least one player in each group must belong to an affiliated club. A modest dress code applies on course: collared shirts, and no tracksuits, thongs or board shorts.

The clubhouse has a licensed bar for members and their signed-in guests, usually open on Wednesday from 11am to 7pm, Friday from midday to 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 7pm. It also has a commercial kitchen and seating for 80, with room for 100 at cocktail functions.

Green fees

Visitors must be members of a golf club; flat fee $30 any holes. Juniors $20 regardless of holes played.
