About the course
Tasman Golf Club is at Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula, about five minutes' drive south of the Port Arthur Historic Site and roughly 90 minutes south-east of Hobart. The nine-hole course sits above Safety Cove, looking across to Cape Raoul, the historic site and out through the Port Arthur Heads to the Southern Ocean.
Played twice, the course is a par 70 of 5,310 metres. Its fairways are well defined and wind through native eucalypts and along a cliff face around 50 metres high. The signature hole is the 8th, where the tee shot carries a gap of about 100 metres between the cliffs. Echidnas live around the course, and sea birds and the occasional whale can be seen from it.
Locals and visitors are welcome, and one daily green fee of $25 covers nine or 18 holes. Hire clubs are $17 a player. Rounds are booked through the form on the club's website and paid by direct deposit. The course is reserved for the local competition on Sundays between 9.30am and 2pm, although visitors can join the competition if they register before 9.30am.
The clubhouse has a bar and dining room, which groups can use by prior arrangement. The clubhouse phone is staffed for limited hours, so the website also lists committee members' mobile numbers for enquiries.
