About the course
Wynyard Golf Club sits at the foot of Fossil Bluff on a peninsula between the Inglis River and Bass Strait. Table Cape forms a backdrop to many holes, and water can be seen from every one. A committee to plan a course was formed in 1914, and the club opened on its present site on 4 October 1924. The greenkeeper and a group of volunteers maintain the course.
The nine holes are played twice from three sets of tees: Blue (5,424 metres), White (5,252 metres) and Red (4,862 metres). Par is 70 on all of them except women's Red, which is 71. Each nine opens and closes with a par 5, and has three par 3s at the 4th, 6th and 8th.
Visitors are welcome. The non-member fee is $30 for a full day, $20 for players aged 17 to 20 and free for supervised children aged 16 and under; a member's guest pays $20, up to six times a year. Pay at the tap-and-go terminal near the practice green, as cash is no longer accepted. In competitions visitors pay only the competition fee on Tuesdays and Sundays, plus $10 on Wednesdays and Saturdays and $5 on Thursdays. Carts cost $15 for nine holes and $30 for 18 by prior arrangement. Neat dress is expected, and a collared shirt is preferred.
- Tuesday (fortnightly): veterans.
- Wednesday: women's day.
- Thursday: nine-hole chicken run.
- Saturday: main competition day.
The clubhouse bar opens on Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 9pm, on Wednesday and alternate Tuesdays in the afternoon and on Friday from 2pm to 7pm; it is closed on Monday and Sunday. A light lunch is served on Saturdays from 11am to 3pm, and the club hosts functions and weddings.
